Selangor FC came from behind to overpower Star City FC in the first leg of the Piala FA Malaysia 2026/27 quarter-final as a Chrigor Moraes hat-trick powered the Red Giants to a dominant 4-1 victory at Stadium Tuanku Syed Putra. Kangar.
Beyond simply banking a first-leg cushion for the second meeting on 11 October, Selangor saw the occasion as a chance to extend their positive momentum across all competitions this season.
Star City, guided by Selangor legend Mehmet Durakovic, lined up with Douglas Oliveira partnering Nur Azfar Fikri Azhar in attack, while the visitors countered with a front line featuring Chrigor Moraes, Vitor Pernambuco and captain Faisal Halim.
The first half saw Star City push hard for an early breakthrough, and their pressure paid off in the 18th minute when former Kuching City FC midfielder Moses Atede fired the hosts into a surprise lead, sending the home crowd into raptures.
The celebrations were short-lived, however. Selangor responded just three minutes later, with Chrigor Moraes finding the net past Farhan Abdul Majid to level the score — his 10th goal of the season across all competitions.
The Red Giants then turned the game firmly in their favour before the break, taking a 2-1 lead into half-time thanks to a Vitor Pernambuco strike in the 43rd minute.
Selangor picked up where they left off after the interval, ramping up the pressure on the Star City defence and forcing Rafael Vitor and Noah Leddel into a battle to help shield Farhan Abdul Majid’s goal from wave after wave of attacks.
The visitors had to wait until the 61st minute for their third goal, completing Chrigor’s brace-turned-hat-trick bid, as the Brazilian pounced on a loose touch from Leddel to steal in and beat Farhan for his second of the night.
With a two-goal cushion now firmly established, South Korean coach Kim Pan-gon turned to his bench, introducing A. Selvan, Peter Makrillos and Mukhairi Ajmal in search of fresh legs to see out the remainder of the contest.
Chrigor Moraes wasn’t finished, though, completing his hat-trick with a fourth Selangor goal in the 87th minute to put a emphatic stamp on the scoreline. The 4-1 result held firm until the final whistle.
The victory hands Selangor a commanding three-goal cushion heading into the second leg at the MBPJ Stadium on 11 October. The result also extends the Red Giants’ unbeaten record across all competitions, keeping them firmly on course for continued success as they close in on international recognition on FIFA’s football calendar.
