Malaysia national team head coach Peter Cklamovski has made it clear that his focus — and that of his players — remains firmly on football and preparation for their AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers ROund 3 Matchday 4 against Laos, despite ongoing external controversies surrounding Malaysian football.
Speaking ahead of the return leg at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on October 14, Cklamovski emphasized that the team’s unity, discipline, and purpose will not be shaken by any off-field issues.
“To put it simply, we can’t and don’t focus on outside matters — even during training,” said Cklamovski during the pre-match press conference.
“We understand there’s a lot of noise out there, but none of it is connected to what we’re doing as a national team. It doesn’t affect my mindset, nor the team’s mindset. We are focused on continuing to build something special here.”
Cklamovski’s comments come as Malaysia prepare to host Laos following their 3–0 victory in Vientiane last week, which kept them top of Group F in the qualification campaign.
With three wins from three matches, Harimau Malaya are expected to secure another strong result on home soil, but Cklamovski insists that the team’s mentality must remain sharp.
“Our focus is on performing well for the Malaysian people — for everyone, young or old,” he continued.
“I see the passion in the players’ eyes, in their hearts, and in their minds. They are determined, disciplined, and fully focused on delivering another proud performance for the nation.”
Cklamovski also delivered an emotional message to Malaysian fans, highlighting how the team’s journey aims to inspire the next generation.
“When I say we want to make the country proud, I mean everyone — from the older generation to the media, and especially the young Malaysians,” he said.
“We want young people to look up to the players — to feel inspired when they watch Mickey (Faisal Halim) or any of the Harimau Malaya squad play for Malaysia.”
Malaysia will return to action on October 14 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, facing Laos once again in what will be their fourth Group F match of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
