The Asian Sepaktakraw Federation and International Sepaktakraw Federation have publicly expressed their unwavering support and full confidence in veteran international referee Mohammed Radhi Che Mei following recent criticism and negative reactions directed towards him on social media.
In a joint statement released on Monday, both governing bodies defended the highly respected match official, describing Radhi Che Mei as one of the most experienced, disciplined, and professional referees in the history of international sepaktakraw.
Radhi’s contribution to the sport spans more than 50 years, having officiated at some of the biggest tournaments on the global calendar, including the Asian Games, SEA Games, World Cups, as well as numerous major competitions organised under ASTAF and ISTAF.
Beyond his officiating duties, Radhi has also earned immense respect as a mentor and educator for younger referees across Asia and beyond, helping shape the next generation of international officials through his knowledge, professionalism, and deep understanding of the sport.
ASTAF and ISTAF stressed that referees deserve protection from unfair personal attacks, especially when decisions are made according to the official laws and regulations of the game.
Both federations acknowledged that difficult and controversial decisions are inevitable in elite-level competition and urged all parties to approach such situations professionally and objectively.
The statement also reminded teams, officials, supporters, and the wider sepaktakraw community about the importance of preserving the values of fair play, mutual respect, and professionalism for the continued development of the sport internationally.
While constructive criticism remains welcome within the spirit of sportsmanship, ASTAF and ISTAF firmly emphasised that emotional accusations and personal attacks against experienced officials should not become part of the culture surrounding the sport.
The governing bodies reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that all international sepaktakraw competitions continue to be conducted fairly, transparently, and professionally.
The strong public backing for Radhi Che Mei also sends a clear message that the integrity and dignity of officiating remain a key pillar in maintaining the credibility and growth of international sepaktakraw.
As the sport continues to expand globally, ASTAF and ISTAF believe that respect for match officials will remain essential in safeguarding the professionalism and future reputation of sepaktakraw on the world stage.
