Thailand’s U23 national team made a dream start to their AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers campaign, cruising to a 6-0 victory over Mongolia in their Group F opener at Thammasat Stadium, Pathum Thani.
Head coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul, better known as “Coach Wang”, fielded a full-strength lineup, including ASEAN Championship standouts Seksan Ratree (captain), Sittha Bunla, and striker Yotsakorn Burapa.
Thailand wasted no time asserting dominance. Just two minutes into the match, Ikhlas Sanron weaved past the Mongolian defense before slotting home a left-footed strike inside the box to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
In the 18th minute, the roles were reversed as Ikhlas turned provider, threading a through ball to Seksan Ratree, who calmly finished to double the advantage.
Thailand continued their relentless attack, and in the 39th minute, Seksan struck again with a powerful long-range effort from outside the box, sending the home crowd into celebration and securing a 3-0 halftime cushion.
The second half saw more of the same dominance. In the 57th minute, Yossakorn’s header was initially denied by the Mongolian goalkeeper, but Seksan reacted quickest to bury the rebound — sealing his hat-trick and Thailand’s fourth goal.
Substitutes made an impact as well. In the 69th minute, Thanawut Phochai delivered a cross from the left, which Yossakorn’s attempt forced a save, only for Chawanwit Saelao to slot home the rebound for 5-0.
Chawanwit was involved again in the 82nd minute, dancing past defenders before squaring the ball to Yotsakorn, who converted from close range to cap off the 6-0 rout.
