KUALA LUMPUR, OCT 3 (SNESports) – Right after the Temasya Sukan Malaysia XX, MSN 2022 (SUKMA), the Head Coach for Malaysia National Special Project Hockey Squad, Muhamad Amin Rahim, together with assistant coaches, submitted 30 players to join the Selection Camp for the upcoming Under 21 International Hockey Championship, the 10th edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup (SoJC), 2022, in Johor Bahru.
Amin Rahim, the head coach, assisted by the Team Manager, I. Vikneswaran; Head of Assistant Coach, Megat Azrafiq Megat Termizi; 2 Assistant Coach, Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin Tengku Abdul Jalil and Baljit Singh Charun Singh, together with Goalkeeper Coach, Roslan Jamaluddin, had started the first training session today, in Stadium Hoki National Bukit Jalil.
The Assistant Coach, Megat Azrafiq Megat Termizi said the first training session went very smoothly, where 30 players reported themselves.
“This morning was the first training session. We do not want to start our training by pressuring players. We wanted to give them space in the session to regain rhythm. While for the next training session, we will focus 100% on the tactical part.
“The coaches have set a high standard for the team like the eagerness to play on the field, discipline on and off the field, the spirit to fight and winning mentality.
“On 18th October, we arranged a friendly match against Australia and on 19th October, against Great Britain, as a preparation before the Sultan of Johor Cup 2022 (SoJC) starts.
“Sultan of Johor Cup (SoJC) is an Under-21 Championship, and we have called up three players who are 21 years old who participated in the Junior Hockey World Cup 2021. The coaches hope that the existence of these three players will help the team, especially those players that never played internationally.
“For Junior Hockey World Cup 2023, there will be a new session of selection camp after Sultan of Johor Cup finished.
“We currently have 40 to 50 players, which we will call up for a selection camp that will last for two weeks. Around 28 to 30 players will be shortlisted for the Junior Hockey World Cup 2023”, he said, after finishing the first training session today.
