Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has officially pulled the plug on three major national competitions for the 2026 season.
The Malaysia Futsal Cup (MFC), the National U-19 Men’s Futsal Championship, and the National Beach Soccer Championship have all been wiped off this year’s calendar. But before the fans hit the panic button, Wisma FAM says there is a “method to the madness.”
According to an official statement released today, the decision wasn’t made lightly. FAM cited several “deal-breakers” that led to the cancellation:
- Calendar Clashes: A massive realignment of the national competition schedule.
- Team Fatigue: Considering the heavy commitments of competing clubs and players.
- Logistics & Infrastructure: Ensuring venues and support systems meet the required standards.
Despite the outcry from futsal and beach soccer enthusiasts, FAM insists this is a tactical retreat to prepare for a bigger push.
“This is not a step backward for the development of national futsal and beach soccer,” FAM clarified. “Instead, it is a strategic approach to ensure a more organized, sustainable, and high-impact plan can be implemented in the future.”
FAM is currently in “Lab Mode,” re-evaluating the entire structure of these sports to ensure they meet long-term development goals and hit the “competitive standard” needed to challenge on the international stage.
