Malaysia stormed to their second straight victory in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers Group G, dismantling Bangladesh 7-1 at SUKPA Indoor Stadium, Kuantan.
The emphatic win provides a timely confidence boost for Rakphol Sainetngam’s men ahead of their decisive final group clash against world powerhouse Iran on Wednesday.
Malaysia nearly opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Ridzwan Bakri dazzled past defenders with neat footwork before unleashing a shot that rattled the post.
A minute later, Awalluddin Mat Nawi made amends, slotting home a low strike past Md Jahid Hassan Rabbi to give the hosts the lead.
However, Bangladesh struck back almost immediately as Fayed Azim finished off a swift counterattack to level the score at 1-1.
Shaken but undeterred, Malaysia intensified their attacks and regained control in the 16th minute. A clever exchange between Danial Dain and Awalluddin ended with Danial tapping in to restore the lead.
The scoreboard read 3-1 two minutes later when Syahir Iqbal Khan Akbar Khan’s strike deflected off Mahadir Harahap for an own goal.
Malaysia continued their dominance after the break, adding four more goals. Syahir Iqbal (23’), Mahadir Harahap (28’), Saad Sani (36’), and Faris Johan (36’) sealed a commanding 7-1 triumph.
Despite the comprehensive win, Malaysia’s qualification for the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 Finals in Jakarta is not yet guaranteed. Tournament rules state that results against the bottom-placed team will not count in groups featuring four teams, due to one group only having three.
As a result, Malaysia’s fate hinges on their final group game against Iran, where only a positive result will cement their passage into the finals.
