Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today unveiled Kim Pan-Gon as the head coach of the Malaysia national team in a press conference at FAM office, Kelana Jaya today, upon completing the stipulated quarantine period following his arrival from Seoul.
Pan Gon, age 52 was earlier announced as the head coach by FAM President, Datuk Haji Hamidin Haji Mohd Amin, following a specially convened FAM executive committee meeting on January 21.
In the media conference, Pan Gon took the opportunity to introduce his coaching team comprising of Pau Marti Vicente (assistant coach), Cho Jun ho (goalkeeper coach), Dr. Gokhan Kandemir (fitness coach) and Lim Jaehun (performance analyst).
A local assistant coach will be named later after Pan Gon gets to meet the shortlisted candidates.
“I hold the position as the Head Coach of the Malaysian national team in high esteem. I would like to thank Datuk President and the FAM EXCO members for giving me the opportunity, as well as the fans who have welcomed me warmly.” Pan-Gon said in press conference
“I am familiar with the F30 project for the Malaysia national team. And I am well aware that we have a goal to go beyond the level of Southeast Asia. It is this goal that my team and I are here to achieve. I promise that my team and I will try our best to take the Malaysian national team to the next level. I believe that the Malaysian national team has great potential.”
“I appeal for this coaching line-up to be given the time to build a strong foundation first and move forward towards our goal by focusing on the bigger picture.”
“As I know that the motto of the country of Malaysia is “unity is strength”. I believe that if everyone can unite with us with your support and trust, we will be able to achieve our goals.”
Also present were FAM general secretary, Mohd Saifuddin Abu Bakar; Technical Director, Scott O’Donell and FAM exco member, Christopher Raj, who is also the chairman of the Media, Communication and Public Relations Committee.
Malaysia national team under Pan Gon is scheduled to meet the Philippines on 23 March 2022 and Singapore on 26 March 2022. Both matches will be held in Singapore in preparation ahead of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers 3rd Round from 8 to 14 June, 2022.
