Selangor FC has officially announced the resignation of Head Coach Nidzam Jamil, who stepped down following a difficult season with the Red Giants.
The 44-year-old coach, who succeeded Tan Cheng Hoe after his departure to Thailand, led Selangor to an impressive start this season, securing three early trophies. However, mounting pressure and consecutive defeats against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) ultimately contributed to his decision to leave the club.
Selangor’s promising season took a turn after a 6-1 defeat to JDT in the 2024 FA Cup final. Tensions intensified following another tough 3-0 loss to Hector Bidoglio’s JDT squad at MBPJ Stadium, and the situation escalated with growing criticism from fans and media. Acknowledging the toll, Nidzam chose to step down, a decision the club fully respected.
In their statement, Selangor FC expressed gratitude for Nidzam’s contributions. “Under his guidance as Head Coach of the first team, Selangor FC is currently among the top teams in the league, finished as FA Cup runners-up, and leads Group H in the AFC Champions League Two competition,” the statement read. They highlighted Nidzam’s influence in instilling a strong competitive spirit among players, which has kept Selangor’s performance steady despite challenges.
Nidzam’s resignation signals a period of transition for Selangor FC, as they turn to Abdi Hassan to assume the Head Coach role on an interim basis while the club searches for a long-term successor.
