Thailand is ready to ignite the global motorsport stage once again as the PT Grand Prix of Thailand 2026 roars into Buriram — marking the country’s seventh consecutive year as a MotoGP host and its second straight season-opening race.
Under the theme “More Than a Race,” Thailand promises to deliver an event that’s bigger, bolder, and more electrifying than ever, as it looks to break attendance records and cement its status as Southeast Asia’s motorsport capital.
The announcement was made today at the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) headquarters in Bangkok, where top officials from the Royal Thai Government, Dorna Sports, PTG Energy, and key motorsport and tourism stakeholders gathered to officially launch the event and open ticket sales.
Set for February 27 to March 1, 2026, at Chang International Circuit, the 2026 Thai Grand Prix will be preceded by Pre-Season Testing on February 21–22.
Early signs point to record-breaking enthusiasm — Grandstand tickets sold out in just 3.21 minutes, underscoring Thailand’s passionate MotoGP fanbase and the event’s soaring popularity on the global calendar.
“Thailand hosting MotoGP for the seventh year running, and as the season opener for a second time, is no coincidence. It reflects the collective effort and dedication of all parties involved,” said Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand.
Dr. Gongsak emphasized that ThaiGP has evolved into a strategic economic engine driving sports tourism, job creation, and national branding.
“ThaiGP is not just a race — it’s an opportunity for Thailand to showcase our culture, hospitality, and innovation to the world.”
Following a recent Cabinet approval, Thailand has secured hosting rights until 2031, ensuring the nation remains a cornerstone of the MotoGP World Championship for the next decade.
The long-term extension aligns with the government’s strategy to position Thailand as a regional motorsport hub, developing young riders and promoting soft power diplomacy through sports.
Mr. Tanukiat Junchum, Manager of the National Sports Development Fund, revealed that MotoGP has generated over 25 billion baht in total economic value and attracted 1.2 million visitors over the past six years.
“MotoGP has become an investment in Thailand’s sporting future — it inspires youth, creates careers, and accelerates regional development, especially in Buriram, now recognized as a model sports city in ASEAN.”
Ms. Amparo Porto, Senior Director of Dorna Sports, praised Thailand’s remarkable organization and fan engagement:
“ThaiGP is one of the most attended races on the MotoGP calendar. The fan zones, concerts, and cultural events make it an all-encompassing experience that reflects MotoGP’s global vision.”
She confirmed Dorna’s decision to extend Thailand’s hosting contract for five more years, citing the nation’s unique ability to combine excitement, culture, and top-tier organization.
PTG Energy Public Company Limited, returning as the title sponsor for the third consecutive year, reaffirmed its commitment to elevate the fan experience under the slogan “PT Go For Max.”
PTG CEO Mr. Pitak Ratchakitprakarn announced exclusive perks for PT Max Card members, including up to 25% ticket discounts, interactive fan experiences, and merchandise giveaways.
“We want every fan to feel the thrill — from the Hero Walk and Meet & Greet at the PT Pavilion to on-site shopping and entertainment,” he said.
Buriram Governor Mr. Piya Pichanam declared the province 100% ready, highlighting that MotoGP has created over 46,000 jobs and transformed the region into a sports tourism powerhouse.
“MotoGP isn’t just a three-day event — it’s a catalyst for sustainable city growth, boosting local economies and building global recognition for Buriram.”
Infrastructure upgrades, enhanced security, and improved logistics are all part of Buriram’s preparations to host what’s expected to be the biggest ThaiGP in history.
Mr. Tanaisiri Chanvitayarom, Managing Director of Chang International Circuit, said the 2026 event will feature expanded fan zones, national-level concerts, and interactive experiences across three days — all designed to surpass the record 226,655 attendance from 2019.
