MotoGP organizing body has officially announced a groundbreaking shift in its fuel regulations, confirming that all racing categories will transition to using 100% non-fossil fuels starting from the 2027 season.
In a bold and unprecedented move, MotoGP has announced that all racing categories will adopt 100% non-fossil fuel usage starting from the 2027 season, marking a revolutionary step in motorsport sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The decision, unveiled by the sport’s governing body, represents a major leap forward in the global push for greener, cleaner motorsports. As climate concerns and carbon neutrality targets reshape industries worldwide, MotoGP is positioning itself at the forefront of this transformation.
To ensure compliance, all fuels will be verified through C14 testing — a scientific method that certifies the complete absence of fossil-derived carbon in the fuel composition.
Starting in 2027, MotoGP fuels will be sourced exclusively from two sustainable technologies:
- Bio-Fuels – Developed from renewable biological materials such as plant-based sources.
- E-Fuels – Produced by extracting carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and converting it into liquid fuel through advanced synthetic processes.
Importantly, MotoGP will not standardize fuel across the grid. Each team will retain its individual fuel suppliers, fostering innovation and competitive development within the non-fossil fuel sector, while adhering to the strict new regulations.
