Marc Marquez has officially committed his long-term future to Ducati Lenovo Team, signing a new two-year contract extension that will keep the eight-time Grand Prix World Champion in Ducati red through the end of the 2028 MotoGP World Championship.

The announcement confirms that Marquez will remain with the Italian manufacturer for the 2027 and 2028 seasons, extending a partnership that has already delivered one of the most remarkable comeback stories in modern motorsport.

After joining Ducati ahead of the 2025 season, Marquez silenced any doubts about his ability to return to the top by capturing his seventh MotoGP World Championship in his first year with the factory squad.

The Spaniard dominated the 2025 campaign, claiming 14 Tissot Sprint victories and 11 Grand Prix wins, securing the title as early as the Japanese Grand Prix while also setting a new all-time record for the most points scored in a single MotoGP season.

His title triumph completed what many regarded as one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history following years of injury setbacks.

The 2026 campaign has presented a different challenge for Marquez after injuries disrupted the opening stages of the season.

However, the 33-year-old has reignited his championship challenge with consecutive victories at Balaton Park and Brno, dramatically reducing the gap to the championship leader.

His victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix carried additional significance, marking both the 100th MotoGP victory for the Ducati Lenovo Team and the 100th Grand Prix win of Marquez’s career across all classes—a fitting milestone during Ducati’s centenary celebrations in 2026.

Speaking after confirming his contract extension, Marquez expressed his pride in continuing with Ducati.

“I’m red. I’m truly happy with this new agreement with the Ducati Lenovo Team and to continue being part of this family.

“When I decided to join Ducati, I was convinced it was the most competitive project. They believed in me, and we built a relationship based on trust and hard work.

“With this renewal, they have once again reaffirmed this commitment, respecting my timing and giving me the peace of mind I needed to make the right decision.”

Reflecting on their immediate success together, Marquez added:

“In our first year together, we fought for the title and won it. That was a priceless achievement and confirmed we had chosen the right path.

“I continue racing because I love this sport and I want to achieve even more ambitious goals. I’m convinced this is the right place to do it.

“As long as I’m here, I’ll give everything I have to paint the future red.”

Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali described the contract extension as the obvious next step following an extraordinary first season together.

“Renewing Marc for the 2027 and 2028 seasons was the most natural decision after the incredible results we achieved together during his first season in red.

“He brought an even stronger winning mentality and extraordinary competitive spirit into an already successful team.

“Marc perfectly represents Ducati’s philosophy through his dedication, sacrifice, professionalism, and ability to create harmony within the team.”

Domenicali believes continuity will be crucial as Ducati aims to remain the benchmark in MotoGP.

“Continuing together gives stability to a winning project and allows us to approach the coming seasons with the ambition of keeping Ducati at the top of MotoGP.”

Ducati Corse General Manager Luigi Dall’Igna highlighted the mutual trust that has defined the partnership from the very beginning.

“Trust is where the relationship between Ducati and Marc began.

“He sought us out, chose Ducati, and today we are delighted to build an even brighter future together.”

Dall’Igna also praised Marquez’s technical contribution to the development of the Desmosedici.

“As an engineer, working with Marc has been incredibly impressive. He has pushed the Desmosedici GP to its highest performance level, extracting the maximum potential from every component.

“Our ambitions remain unchanged, and I am excited to continue writing another successful chapter in Ducati’s history alongside Marc.”

The new agreement sends a clear message that Ducati intends to build its long-term future around one of the greatest riders in MotoGP history.

After delivering a championship in their first season together and continuing to challenge for titles in 2026, Marquez and Ducati now have four more years to pursue further records, victories, and world championships.

With the Spaniard once again in title contention and fully committed until 2028, Ducati has secured not only one of the sport’s biggest names but also the rider who has already proven capable of leading the Bologna manufacturer into another golden era of MotoGP.
