Malaysian teenager Hakim Danish produced one of the greatest comeback performances in recent Moto3 history, charging from 14th on the grid to claim his first-ever Moto3 World Championship victory at the 2026 MONSTER ENERGY Grand Prix of Czechia at Automotodrom Brno.
The AEON Credit–MT Helmets–MSi rider overcame a devastating 12-place grid penalty to deliver a sensational ride, becoming the first Malaysian rider in a decade to win a Moto3 Grand Prix, ending a 10-year wait since Khairul Idham Pawi’s memorable victory at the 2016 German Grand Prix.
Hakim crossed the finish line in 33:34.264, finishing 0.466 seconds clear of second place after a breathtaking final-lap attack.
The 18-year-old had originally qualified second fastest during Saturday’s Q2 session but was demoted to 14th on the starting grid after receiving a 12-place penalty for riding unnecessarily slowly while seeking a slipstream during qualifying.
Rather than allowing the setback to affect his confidence, Hakim responded with remarkable resilience.
Launching off the line brilliantly, the Malaysian carved his way through the field and astonishingly surged into the race lead during the opening lap before briefly surrendering the position as the leading group settled into an intense early battle.
Despite the fierce competition, Hakim comfortably remained among the front runners throughout the opening laps.
Hakim quickly established himself inside the leading group, climbing into third place during the opening stages while closely pursuing Brian Uriarte for second.
The battle at the front remained incredibly close, with constant position changes among the podium contenders.
On Lap 12, Hakim dropped back to third after being overtaken by David Almansa, before slipping to fourth in the final sector. However, the Malaysian immediately fought back, reclaiming second position on Lap 13 with a decisive overtaking move that kept his victory hopes alive heading into the closing laps.
Everything came down to an unforgettable final lap. Hakim made his decisive move by overtaking into the lead and then delivered a flawless final sector under immense pressure from the chasing pack.
Showing outstanding composure and defensive precision, the Malaysian crossed the finish line first to secure a famous maiden Moto3 victory with a winning margin of 0.466 seconds.
