Malaysia’s wildcard duo Helmi Azman and Azroy Hakeem Anuar produced solid performances at the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia 2025, successfully completing the Moto2 race at the Sepang International Circuit, Sepang on Sunday despite the intense challenge of competing against full-season World Championship riders.
Riding for the PETRONAS MIE Racing RW Team, both local riders impressed by showing determination and consistency throughout the 11-lap race, which took place under blistering afternoon heat.
Starting from 30th on the grid, Helmi Azman maintained a steady rhythm and crossed the finish line in 23rd position, finishing 38.792 seconds behind race winner Jake Dixon (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team).
The result equals his performance from last year’s Malaysian GP, where he also made a wildcard appearance for the same team — once again proving his ability to compete respectably at world level.
Teammate Azroy Hakeem Anuar, who started 29th, also completed the race with a composed performance to claim 24th position, 38.945 seconds behind Dixon.
Azroy, who suffered a crash during free practice earlier in the weekend, showed resilience and adaptability to complete his home Grand Prix without errors.
At the front, Jake Dixon (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) dominated proceedings to take a commanding victory with a time of 23 minutes 05.269 seconds.
David Alonso (CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team) secured second place, crossing the line in 23:07.304, while Barry Baltus (Fantic Racing) completed the podium in third with 23:08.014.
