Selangor got the better of local rivals Kuala Lumpur City, cruising to a 3-0 victory in the Unifi Liga Super Malaysia season at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
The Red Giants lined up with Sikh Izhan between the posts, Faisal Halim wearing the captain’s armband, and Chrigor Moraes tasked with orchestrating the attack. KL City, meanwhile, fielded Ameerul Eqhwan marshalling the defence, with Paulo Josue leading the line up top.
Selangor came out of the blocks aggressively, forcing several dangerous chances on the KL City goal, though the visitors’ goalkeeper deserved credit for keeping his side in the contest with a string of sharp saves.
KL City, for their part, sat deep and defended in numbers, making life difficult for Selangor to find a way into the penalty area in the early stages.
The breakthrough eventually came in the 26th minute, as Selangor’s new local signing this season, A. Selvan, capitalised after the KL City goalkeeper failed to hold onto a Chrigor Moraes effort. The former Negeri Sembilan winger pounced on the loose ball to open the scoring for the hosts.
Neither side could find a way through before the break, and the first half ended 1-0 in Selangor’s favour.
Selangor came out for the second half with renewed intensity, immediately looking for a second to put the tie beyond doubt.
The Red Giants doubled their lead in the 48th minute through a well-taken finish from their talisman Chrigor Moraes, sending the home crowd at the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council Stadium into raptures.
KL City tried to respond, with Baqiuddin Shamsudin testing the Selangor goal, though his effort drifted wide of the target. Faisal Halim and Chrigor Moraes also combined dangerously inside the KL City box in the 65th minute, but couldn’t find a way through for a third goal on that occasion.
The third goal did arrive soon after, however, with Eduardo Sosa netting in the 73rd minute to put the result beyond any doubt and secure a maximum three points for Selangor.
The match at the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council Stadium ended 3-0 in Selangor’s favour, capping off a dominant afternoon for The Red Giants over their local rivals.
