Malaysia’s rising badminton star Wong Ling Ching delivered a sensational performance to book her place in the Women’s Singles final of the Malaysia Super 100 2025, edging Thailand’s Pitchamon Opatniputh in a thrilling three-game battle — 20-22, 23-21, 24-22 — that lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes.
In a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats at the Axiata Arena, the unseeded Wong displayed extraordinary grit and composure to overturn a one-game deficit against the more experienced Thai shuttler. The victory not only marks her first-ever win over Pitchamon in their debut encounter but also guarantees Malaysia’s medal in the event and a coveted spot in tomorrow’s final.
Wong started strongly but narrowly lost the opening game 20-22 after a late surge from Pitchamon. Refusing to be discouraged, the 21-year-old Malaysian showed incredible determination in the second game — saving two match points before sealing it 23-21 to force a decider.
The final game proved a test of stamina and mental toughness. Both players exchanged long rallies and intense net duels, with Wong saving another match point at 21-22 before clinching the victory 24-22 to send the home crowd into celebration.
The win is a career-defining moment for Wong, who has been steadily climbing the ranks on the international circuit. Her run to the final is seen as a testament to Malaysia’s growing depth in women’s badminton — a category long dominated by regional powerhouses Thailand, Japan, and China.
Wong Ling Ching will now prepare to face the winner of the other semi-final between Nozomi Okuhara, 37th World Ranking from Japan in tomorrow’s championship showdown, where she will look to claim her first international title on home soil.
