Lee Zii Jia, Malaysian badminton men’s singles player, showed a mix of emotions after winning the bronze medal at the Olympic 2024 by defeating India’s Lakshya Sen.
The bronze medal served as a consolation for the world number seven after his aspiration of securing Malaysia’s first Olympic gold medal was not realized.
“To be honest, after losing last night’s match (semi-final), I wasn’t sure whether I wanted this medal (bronze) because my goal was only a gold medal,” said Zii Jia in an interview with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) after the match.
Reflecting on his journey, he added, “This is an unbelievable journey for me.”
The bronze medal marks a significant achievement for Zii Jia, offering a sense of redemption and pride despite falling short of his ultimate goal.
