Marc Marquez delivered a performance for the ages—crashing, recovering, and still storming to victory in a rain-hit Sprint Race in the MotoGP. 2026 Spanish GP at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto.
Backed by a roaring home crowd, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider rewrote the script of what’s possible on two wheels, turning disaster into triumph in a race defined by chaos, strategy, and sheer brilliance.
Starting from pole, Marquez launched perfectly as Johann Zarco initially held second before Alex Marquez surged through to challenge for the lead.
Behind them, title contender Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio stayed in contention, while championship leader Marco Bezzecchi suffered a disastrous start, dropping down the order.
As the early laps unfolded, the front group began to intensify their battle—setting the stage for what would soon become a race of survival.
With 10 laps remaining, light rain began to fall—triggering the white flag and opening the door for bike changes.
Grip levels fluctuated, uncertainty spread, and strategy suddenly became as crucial as speed.
While some riders hesitated, others pushed on, with Di Giannantonio and Raul Fernandez climbing into contention as conditions worsened.
The race took a dramatic turn when Alex Marquez overtook his brother for the lead—but moments later, chaos erupted.
Marc Marquez crashed at the final corner. In a split-second decision that defined the race, he remounted and immediately dived into the pits to switch bikes—a gamble that would prove decisive.
Moments later, Alex Marquez also crashed at the same corner as rain intensified, triggering a chain reaction of pit stops and mistakes across the field. Even Brad Binder, who briefly led among those who switched bikes early, went down in the treacherous conditions.
As the grid reshuffled, it was Marquez and teammate Francesco Bagnaia who emerged at the front after perfectly timing their switch to wet tyres.
Bagnaia briefly led, but Marquez—relentless as ever—surged past to reclaim the top spot.
From leading… to crashing… to dropping as low as P17… and back to P1—Marquez delivered a comeback that defied logic.
Marquez crossed the line to claim an unforgettable Sprint victory, ahead of Bagnaia, who charged from P10 on the grid to secure second.
Completing a remarkable podium was Franco Morbidelli of VR46 Racing Team, who climbed from P18 to third in a race that rewarded bold decisions.
Despite crashing, Binder salvaged fourth, followed by Di Giannantonio and Raul Fernandez. Fabio Quartararo claimed seventh, while Zarco and Luca Marini rounded out the points positions.
