Jordan national team made a surprise comeback in the stoppage time after beating Iraq national team, scoring 3-2 in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Round of 16 at Khalifa International Stadium.
In the beginning game, both teams still possessed the ball in the middle area and looked for a chance to reach the goal.
But in the late game of the first half, in the 45th minute, following a fast break of Jordan and Yazan Al-Naimat’s shot to the goal, Jordan led 1-0
In the remaining time of the first half, there was no additional score, ending the first half with Jordan leading 1-0.
In the second half, Iraq was attacking Jordan’s side, looking for an equalizer goal.
In the 68th minute, following a corner-kick of Iraq and Ali Jasim’s crossing to Suad Natiq’s header in close range to the goal, Iraq equalized 1-1.
In the 76th minute, following defender Jordan’s missed header and Aymen Hussein keeping the ball and shooting a difficult angle to the first post, Iraq led 2-1.
But after that, Iraq was down to 10 players. After the Aymen Hussein copy act celebration following the Jordan player, the referee looked at his excessive celebration and gave a second yellow card to the red card and sent it off.
But in the stoppage time, in the 90+5 minute, following Mousa Tamari’s shot in the first attempt to save, the ball bounced to Yazan Al Arab’s shot to the goal, Jordan equalized 2-2.
After a not long time, in the 90+7 minute, Jordan attacked again, and Salih Ratib passed the ball to Nazar Al Rashdan’s shot from outside the box to the second post; Jordan came back to lead 3-2.
In the remaining time, Iraq almost got an equalizer goal from Rebin Solaka but a bit too high, ending Jordan winning 3-2 and advancing to the Quarter-Final.
In the Quarter-Final, Iraq will face Tajikistan, on 2 February.
