It was a classic “Causeway” style clash on the futsal court, but it ended in absolute heartbreak for the Malaysian Tigress. Despite leading for most of the match, a late twist of fate saw Malaysia settle for a 4-4 draw against Indonesia in their crucial Group A of the ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship 2026 at Terminal 21 Shopping Centre, Nakhon Ratchasima.
With a semi-final spot hanging in the balance, both teams threw caution to the wind in a high-octane battle that kept the fans on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer.
Malaysia started with intent, fielding heavyweights Nur Lyana Soberi and Intan Sarah in the starting five. The goals came thick and fast:
Syafiqah Zainal opened the account in the 8th minute, but Indonesia’s Ayuni Anjani hit back almost immediately.
At 2-2, Nur Lyana Soberi produced a moment of magic in the 14th minute to send Malaysia into the break with a slim 3-2 advantage.
The Tigress came out prowling in the second half, and when Syafiqah Zainal netted her brace in the 18th minute to make it 4-2, the three points looked locked in the bag.
However, Indonesia refused to back down. After Fitri Amelya clawed one back in the 25th minute, the pressure reached a breaking point. In the 33rd minute, disaster struck—a cruel own goal by the otherwise brilliant Syafiqah allowed Indonesia to level the scores at 4-4.
Malaysia currently sits in 2nd place in Group A with a single point, but the path to the semi-finals just got a whole lot steeper.
