Malaysian women’s team saw their Badminton Asia Team Championships 2026 campaign come to a grinding halt on Friday, suffering a clinical 3–0 at the hands of second seeds the Korea Republic in the quarter-finals.

The tie opened with a daunting task for world No. 37 K. Letshanaa, who faced reigning Olympic and World Champion An Se Young. The gap in class was evident as Se Young dismantled the Malaysian 21-11, 21-11.

Despite Letshanaa’s recent encouraging semi-final run at the Indonesia Masters, she was unable to disrupt the rhythm of the world No. 1, who extended her remarkable unbeaten streak to 32 matches.

Malaysia’s first doubles pair, Carmen Ting and Ong Xin Yee, were the next to fall. Filling the big shoes usually occupied by Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, the world No. 25 duo were outgunned 21-13, 21-9 by Korea’s scratch pairing of Baek Ha Na and Kim Hye Jeong.

The win highlighted Korea’s terrifying depth, as they could afford to split their world top-5 regular pairings and still deliver a straight-sets masterclass.

Any hopes of a miracle comeback were extinguished in the second singles. World No. 41 Wong Ling Ching faced world No. 70 Park Ga Eun in what was statistically Malaysia’s most winnable match. However, Ling Ching struggled to capitalize on her momentum from last week’s Thailand Masters, falling 21-16, 21-12 to hand Korea the unassailable 3–0 lead.

The defeat at the Qingdao Conson Gymnasium marks the second consecutive edition where Malaysia has failed to qualify for the Uber Cup Finals on merit. However, sitting at world No. 7 in the team rankings, the “Red Giants” of the court remain odds-on favorites to secure a spot in the Horsens, Denmark finals this May via the world team ranking.
