Malaysia’s world champion mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei fell just short of making history at the China Masters 2025, suffering a straight-game defeat to Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supisara Paewsamphran in today’s final.
Hopes were high for the Malaysian duo to capture the country’s first-ever title at the China Masters, but the Thais proved too strong, winning 21-8, 21-17 in only 34 minutes at the Shenzhen Arena.
Having endured three consecutive three-game matches en route to the final — including a stunning semi-final victory over China’s world No. 1 pair — Tang Jie and Ee Wei showed signs of fatigue. Their power and sharpness were visibly reduced, leaving them unable to match the pace and consistency of their Thai opponents.
For Dechapol and Supisara, who are only in their first year as a partnership, the triumph marked another statement of intent. They now hold a 4-1 head-to-head record against the Malaysians, underlining their rapid rise as one of the most formidable pairs on the circuit.
Despite the defeat, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei’s run to the final reinforces their reputation as one of the elite pairs in world badminton. The world champions remain on course for a strong finish to the season, with their eyes set on upcoming World Tour events and the World Tour Finals in December.
