Malaysia national team is set to benefit from the expertise of two professionals with ties to FC Barcelona as they prepare for the upcoming Pestabola Merdeka 2024.
Edu Martinez, who spent 12 years as a physiotherapist at FC Barcelona, including a stint as the first-team physiotherapist from December 2022 to June 2024, has arrived in Malaysia to join the team’s centralised training camp. Martinez will collaborate with FAM physiotherapist Mohamad Harris Zafran Ahmad Haraman to manage player therapy and injury rehabilitation.
Additionally, former FC Barcelona team doctor Dr. Xavier Valle will serve as a consulting doctor for the Harimau Malaya squad. Although not physically present in Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Xavier will provide medical expertise remotely, advising on injury cases during the training camp. Dr. Xavier has a long history with FC Barcelona, having served as a team doctor since 2004, and was the first-team doctor from the 2021/22 season until the 2023/24 season.
His collaboration with the Harimau Malaya squad began in June 2023 during their centralised training camp in Kuala Terengganu.
