Selangor FC supporters have found themselves at the centre of controversy after 33 fans were arrested and brought before the Magistrates’ Court in Kuala Terengganu today, following an incident involving flares that allegedly disrupted public order near the iconic Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge.
The group was presented in court at approximately 10.15am, with authorities seeking a remand order in connection with events that unfolded yesterday evening.
According to reports, the supporters were believed to have caused disturbance along the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge route at around 6.30pm, when a large gathering of Selangor fans marched while waving flags and igniting flares.
The incident quickly drew attention, as videos of the procession went viral across social media platforms, triggering heated debate among Malaysian football followers and the wider public.
Many netizens criticised the act, describing it as reckless and unnecessary, while others argued it reflected a lack of control in supporter culture.
The 33 arrested individuals were part of a larger group of approximately 400 Selangor FC supporters who were detained at the Kuala Terengganu District Police Headquarters last night for urine screening.
Authorities believe 21 supporters tested positive, with two reportedly found in possession of cannabis.
A full media briefing is expected later today, with Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin scheduled to address the situation at around 2.30pm.
The incident came on the same night Selangor FC were in action in the Malaysia Super League, where the Red Giants managed a 1-1 draw against Terengganu FC at Stadium Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, Gong Badak.
