Aliff Sor. Dechaphan, a dynamic 20-year-old fighter of Thai-Malaysian descent, is set to make his highly anticipated return to the ring in the Muay Thai Strawweight division (115 – 125 lbs.) at ONE Fight Night 23.
Alief has impressed many with his outstanding fighting performance, securing victories in his first four fights, three of which were knockouts. This success earned him a contract with ONE Championship. Despite his recent stumble at ONE Lumpini 58, where he lost to Zhang Beimian under kickboxing rules, Alief is eager to regain his confidence and return to his winning ways in the Muay Thai discipline he excels in.
His opponent, Ellis Barbosa, a 24-year-old heavy-hitter from England, is making his comeback after a six-month ban for testing positive for banned substances. Ellis previously halted the undefeated streak of Thongpoon PK. Saenchai in December 2023, a victory later nullified due to his positive test.
Aliff remains undeterred by his loss to Beimian, viewing it as a learning experience. He is focused on refining his techniques and adapting his strategies for the upcoming Muay Thai bout.
Reflecting on his past match, Alief stated, “I fought kickboxing for the first time in my life and lost. We had little experience and were excited, but I’ve learned a lot from my shortcomings. I will adapt and use these lessons in my Muay Thai fighting.”
Alief is thrilled about his world stage debut under Muay Thai rules, which he finds more fluid and familiar than kickboxing. Confident in his skills, he aims to showcase his Muay Thai prowess and return to the winning path.
“When I found out I would be fighting at ONE Fight Night, I was very excited. This is a rule that has never lost to anyone in ONE. I guarantee that I will release the Muay Thai weapons I have previously shown for the whole world to see again,” Alief declared.
For the past month, Alief has been intensively training to prepare for the challenge that lies ahead. He respects Ellis’ capabilities but believes his own speed and tactical advantage will set him apart.
“The day Ellis met Thongpoon, I was watching in the field. Ellis was smart and faster, but I feel like my speed is faster, and I will use my length to my advantage. I have prepared all the Muay Thai masters to show you, including back elbows, flying knees, and neck kicks. The chances of not completing the full round are high,” Alief explained.
Alief is motivated by the support of his fans from both Thailand and Malaysia and is determined not to disappoint them.
“To all boxing fans, this Saturday, July 6th, don’t forget to watch. I’m ready to show my full strength for sure. Fight with all your heart,” Alief concluded.
Catch the thrilling bout between Alief and Ellis live at ONE Fight Night 23 from Lumpini Boxing Stadium (Ramintra), Bangkok on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
