Terengganu Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin, confirmed the arrest of 33 Selangor FC supporters following a chaotic disturbance at the iconic Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge yesterday.
The incident, which unfolded around 6:30 PM, occurred just hours before the high-stakes Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 clash between Terengganu FC and Selangor FC at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, Gong Badak.
Terengganu Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin, revealed in a press conference today that a group of visiting supporters triggered the unrest by marching uncontrollably and lighting flares in public. Authorities slammed the behavior as dangerous, irresponsible, and a clear violation of public safety laws.
However, the trouble didn’t stop at pyrotechnics. Upon intercepting the supporters’ transport, police conducted a thorough sweep of the buses.
The crackdown led to several startling discoveries. Police seized:
- 19.1 grams of suspected cannabis.
- 0.37 grams of Erimin 5 pills.
“The seized drugs are believed to be for personal use, involving three specific cases and three arrests,” Datuk Mohd Khairi stated. Following the discovery, police conducted urine tests on a massive scale—screening 412 individuals, including bus drivers and passengers.
The arrests were broken down into several legal categories:
- Flares & Obstruction: Nine men were detained under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant.
- Narcotics Possession: Three men were held under Section 6 and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
- Drug Consumption: A staggering 21 individuals tested positive for cannabis and were detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In a bizarre twist, Datuk Mohd Khairi highlighted the arrogance of one detainee when questioned about lighting flares at a public landmark.
“When asked why they lit flares at the Drawbridge, the individual replied: ‘I’m not going to light them in the forest for the monkeys to watch, am I?’ We arrested him for making such inappropriate and disrespectful remarks to a civil servant,” the Police Chief noted.
