The Netherlands wrapped up top spot in Group F with a comfortable 2-1 victory over Tunisia, booking a blockbuster Round of 32 showdown against Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Although Ronald Koeman’s side faced little resistance for most of the contest, they did exactly what was required to finish above their group rivals and secure first place, despite Japan’s simultaneous draw helping confirm the Dutch advantage.
The Oranje made the perfect start and were gifted the opening goal after just three minutes, when a Tunisian defender accidentally turned the ball into his own net under pressure.
Only a few minutes later, Brian Brobbey doubled the advantage with a composed finish, giving the Dutch complete control of the match before Tunisia had time to recover.
With a two-goal cushion, the Netherlands comfortably dictated possession and controlled the tempo, rarely looking troubled as they edged closer to another group-stage victory.
Tunisia Briefly Respond, But Oranje Stay in Command
Tunisia managed to pull one goal back against the run of play, briefly raising hopes of a comeback.
However, the Dutch quickly restored control, easing off the pressure while maintaining possession and seeing out the result without major scares.
At the same time, Japan’s draw elsewhere ensured the Netherlands finished top of Group F, eliminating any late uncertainty over the standings.
While topping the group guarantees progression, it does not necessarily provide an easier route through the knockout rounds.
Instead of facing Brazil, who await the second-placed team from Group F, the Netherlands will now take on an in-form Morocco in the Round of 32 on 29 June.
The fixture also carries extra intrigue, with several Moroccan stars—including Ismael Saibari—well known to Dutch football through the Eredivisie and PSV Eindhoven.
Should the Oranje overcome Morocco, an even sterner challenge could await in the next round against either tournament co-hosts Canada or the high-flying South Africa, making their path to the latter stages one of the toughest in the tournament.
The Dutch may not have produced a spectacular performance, but professionalism proved enough against an overmatched Tunisia side. Early goals, disciplined game management and favorable results elsewhere ensured the Oranje advanced as Group F winners.
