Kuching City FC finally opened their Unifi Liga Super Malaysia 2026/27 account spectacularly, destroying Kuala Lumpur City 6-0 at Stadium Bola Sepak Kuala Lumpur, Cheras on Wednesday night.
The Cats dominated a remarkable second league fixture, with Jerome Mpacko Etame scoring four goals to lead the demolition job, while Ajdin Mujagic added two goals to complete a commanding performance.
The match was also an unusual night for KL City, who were forced to begin with just 10 players on the pitch and one substitute amid continuing financial problems and an influenza outbreak affecting the squad.
Former JDT player Ajdin Mujagic rose highest inside the penalty area to head home and give the visitors an early lead.
The hosts struggled to respond as Kuching continued to dominate possession and create pressure.
In the 25th minute, Kuching doubled their advantage. A corner was not properly dealt with by the KL City defence before James Okwuosa delivered the ball back into the box.
Jerome Mpacko Etame rose calmly and headed home to make it 2-0.
KL City’s already difficult situation appeared to improve shortly before half-time.
Okwuosa was shown a straight red card after a late challenge on a KL City forward. As the last defender, his dismissal reduced Kuching City to 10 men and gave the hosts a potential route back into the match.
Kuching City immediately restored their two-goal advantage after the restart. Just two minutes into the second half, Etame struck again, heading home a cross from Arif Farhan to make it 3-0.
In the 52nd minute, Etame completed his hat-trick after reacting fastest to a rebound from a Wenzell-Halls effort that struck the post and made no mistake from close range.
Kuching City continued to exploit the spaces available despite playing with 10 men.
Three minutes after Etame’s third goal, Ajdin Mujagic scored his second of the night. The forward calmly finished a pass from Wenzell Halls inside the penalty area to make it 5-0.
The final blow arrived when Etame found the net for the fourth time. The Cameroon-born forward completed an extraordinary individual performance and ensured Kuching City finished the night with six unanswered goals.
The victory gives Kuching City their first three points of the 2026/27 Super League campaign and provides a major boost after a difficult opening period.
Etame was undoubtedly the star, scoring four times, while Mujagic’s brace added further evidence of Kuching’s attacking strength.
KL City, meanwhile, face an increasingly difficult situation. The match marked their first official appearance following the earlier league decision that saw them lose three points by default, while their limited playing squad highlighted the severity of their current challenges.
Unlike Kuching City, KL City had almost no options from the bench because of the lack of available players.
KL City will next face Brunei DPMM FC on 29 August, and Kuching City will also be in action on the same date, travelling to face Kelantan Red Warrior.
