Sabah FA’s dream of the Liga Wanita Nasional 2025 season unbeaten came to a halt after suffering a narrow 0-1 defeat to Selangor FC at KLFA Stadium, Cheras.
Already crowned champions prior to the final fixture, Sabah were stunned in the 19th minute when Selangor captain Nur Ainsyah Murad unleashed a powerful strike to give the Red Giants the lead.
Sabah responded with urgency and came agonisingly close to an equaliser in the 34th minute, but a well-struck free-kick by skipper Win Theingi Tun crashed against the Selangor crossbar, leaving the score unchanged at the break.
Selangor nearly doubled their advantage early in the second half, only for Jang Bojeong’s free-kick to drift just wide of the Sabah goal in the 50th minute. Despite sustained pressure from the champions, Selangor’s defensive discipline held firm.
Sabah’s best chance of the second half arrived late in the game. In the 88th minute, midfielder Haindee Mosroh fired a dangerous effort from the right, but Selangor goalkeeper Daiyana Wardina Mohd Rosdi produced a crucial save to preserve the lead.
The final whistle confirmed the end of Sabah’s unbeaten streak on the last matchday of the season. Nevertheless, the Borneo side closed out a superb campaign as LWN 2025 champions with 37 points from 14 matches.
Selangor, meanwhile, sealed their position as LWN 2025 runners-up, finishing the season strongly with 34 points.
