Kedah Darul Aman took advantage in the first match after beating Penang FC, scoring 1-0 in the Piala FA Malaysia 2024/25 Quarter-Final first match at Stadium Bandaraya, Pulau Pinang.
Hasbullah Abu Bakar’s decisive goal clinched the win for Nafuzi Zain’s squad, overcoming Akmal Rizal Ahmad Rakhli’s Penang FC. Despite having opportunities to extend their lead, KDA FC was denied by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) when Ebenezer Assifuah’s goal was ruled out due to Fazrul Amir being offside.
The first half of the match was eventful, with VAR also overturning a penalty decision after it was determined that Penang captain Rafael Vitor did not foul Kedah midfielder Sukhrob Nurulloev.
The match saw a total of three yellow cards issued by referee Ahmad Zuhaidi Dzulkifli to players from both teams throughout the first half.
KDA FC will be looking to maintain their advantage when the two teams meet again in the second leg on 5 July at Darul Aman Stadium, Alor Setar.
