Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has been hit with another disciplinary setback after confirming it received a new ruling from the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, following a meeting on 12 December 2025 concerning the fielding of ineligible players.
Chaired by Deputy Chairman Jorge Palacio, the committee concluded that FAM breached Article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (2025 Edition) by fielding ineligible players in three Tier 1 international matches involving the Harimau Malaya squad.
Under FIFA’s ruling, Malaysia has officially been declared to have lost all three fixtures 3-0 by default, overturning the original on-field results:
- Malaysia vs Cape Verde 29 May 2025 | Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras Original result: 1-1 draw
- Malaysia vs Singapore 4 September 2025 | National Stadium, Bukit Jalil Original result: Malaysia won 2-1
- Malaysia vs Palestine 8 September 2025 | Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri Original result: Malaysia won 1-0
The decision effectively wipes out two home victories and a draw, delivering a significant blow to Malaysia’s international record and further underlining the consequences of administrative non-compliance at FIFA level.
In addition to the forfeited results, FIFA has imposed a CHF10,000 fine (approximately RM51,414) on FAM — a symbolic but firm reminder of the governing body’s strict stance on player eligibility regulations.
FAM confirmed that it will submit a formal written request to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee to obtain the full reasoning behind the decision, before determining its next steps.
The detailed grounds will be crucial in shaping whether FAM pursues clarification, mitigation or any further legal or procedural avenues available under FIFA regulations.
