Malaysia endured a night of mixed fortunes at the DAIHATSU Indonesia Masters 2026 (HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500) on Tuesday, as several national representatives advanced to the Round of 16, while others bowed out after hard-fought battles in the Round of 32.
National men’s doubles top seeds Aaron Chia / Soh Wooi Yik [1] suffered a surprise early exit after going down 1-2 to Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard / Mads Vestergaard. Despite taking the opening game 22-20, the Malaysians were unable to contain the Danes’ consistency and lost the next two games 19-21, 16-21.
In contrast, Goh Sze Fei / Nur Izzuddin Rumsani [4] produced a composed performance to advance, dispatching American pair Chen Zhi Yi / Presley Smith in straight games, 21-15, 21-17, reaffirming their status as strong title contenders.
Another positive note came from Azriyn Ayub / Tan Wee Kiong, who cruised past Taiwan’s Lee Fang-Chih / Lee Fang-Jen 21-13, 21-18 to book their place in the next round.
National women’s doubles No.1 pair Pearly Tan / M. Thinaah [1] demonstrated resilience and composure, edging out the American duo Francesca Corbett / Jennie Gai 2-1. After taking the first game 21-15, the Malaysians dropped the second 20-22 before regrouping to seal the decider 21-19.
However, it was the end of the road for Chong Jie Yu / Vanessa Ng, who fell 0-2 to Hong Kong’s Tsang Hiu Yan / Yeung Pui Lam (16-21, 10-21).
Meanwhile, Cheng Su Hui / Tan Zhing Yi continued Malaysia’s progress in women’s doubles with a solid 22-20, 21-13 victory over Denmark’s Kathrine Vang / Mette Werge.
In mixed doubles, Malaysia’s Choi Sol Gyu / Goh V Shem were eliminated after a closely contested 1-2 defeat to Thailand’s Kittinupong Kedren / Lucas Ekarat Wedler, despite rallying strongly after losing the first game. The final score read 24-26, 21-19, 21-13 in favour of the Thai pair.
Further disappointment came as Ong Xin Yee / Carmen Ting were outplayed by Japan’s Kaho Osawa / Mai Tanabe, losing 0-2 (19-21, 18-21).
