Tajikistan national team made history in the Quarter-Final for the first time after beating UAE national team in the penalty shoot-out, scoring 4-2 after tied in 120 minutes 1-1 in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Round of 16 at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
In the beginning game, both teams still possessed the ball in the middle area and looked for a chance to reach the goal.
In the 30th minute, following the corner kick of Tajikistan and Zaire Dzhuraboev crossing to Vahdat Hanonov’s header to the first post, Tajikistan led 1-0.
In the remaining time of the first half, there was no additional score, ending the first half with Tajikistan leading 1-0.
In the second half, Tajikistan still played an attack and finding 2nd goal for clinching victory in this match.
UAE almost got an equalizer goal in the 90th minute following a shot from outside the box of Yahya Al Ghassani but hit the woodwork.
But in the stoppage time in the 90+5 minute, following a set-piece of UAE and Ali Saleh crossing to Khalifa Al Hammadi’s header into the goal, UAE equalized 1-1.
The remaining time had no additional score, ending both tied 1-1 and continued playing in the extra time.
In the extra time, both sides had opportunities to goal but no additional score, ending both tied 1-1 and continuing to penalty shoot-out to find a winner.
In the penalty shoot-out, Tajikistan shot to the goal with all 5 players, and UAE had Caio Canedo miss a shot. Tajikistan won 5-3 and passed to the Quarter-Final.
In the Quarter-Final, Tajikistan will face the match winner between Iraq and Jordan.
