MotoGP SEG has officially confirmed that Thailand will once again host the opening round of the 2027 MotoGP World Championship, with Chang International Circuit in Buriram staging the historic event from March 5–7, 2027.

The announcement, published through MotoGP.com and MotoGP’s official communication channels, means Thailand will become the season-opening venue for three consecutive years (2025–2027) while also making history as the first circuit in the world to host a MotoGP race under the championship’s all-new technical regulations, which will govern the sport from 2027 to 2031.

The event will launch the 79th season of the FIM Grand Prix World Championship and mark the beginning of a brand-new era for premier-class motorcycle racing.

MotoGP Group described Thailand’s third consecutive season-opening role as recognition of the country’s rapidly growing influence within the championship and the continued expansion of its passionate motorsport fanbase.

Following the tremendous success of the 2025 and 2026 opening rounds, Buriram has firmly established itself as one of MotoGP’s premier destinations.

The 2027 Thailand Grand Prix will carry even greater significance as fans around the world witness the debut of MotoGP’s next-generation motorcycles competing under the sport’s revolutionary new technical regulations for the very first time.

It will officially usher in the next chapter of MotoGP competition.

The opening race of 2027 will represent much more than simply the first Grand Prix of the season.

It will serve as the global unveiling of MotoGP’s new technical package, which is expected to redefine the championship over the next five years.

As the first competitive race under the new rules, Buriram will become the birthplace of MotoGP’s latest generation, giving Thailand a unique place in the sport’s history.

MotoGP Group also highlighted Buriram’s outstanding record as one of the championship’s most successful venues.

During the 2026 Thailand Grand Prix, Chang International Circuit welcomed a record-breaking 228,228 spectators, the highest attendance ever recorded for a MotoGP event in Thailand.

The weekend concluded with Marco Bezzecchi delivering a memorable victory for Aprilia, further reinforcing Buriram’s reputation for producing thrilling racing in front of passionate crowds.

The remarkable attendance figures have strengthened Thailand’s position as one of MotoGP’s most important commercial and sporting markets in Asia.

MotoGP Group Chief Executive Officer Carmelo Ezpeleta praised Thailand’s continued excellence in hosting the championship.

“Hosting the MotoGP season opener for the third consecutive year is a testament to the outstanding partnership we have built with Thailand and the incredible passion of its fans.”

Ezpeleta also praised Chang International Circuit for consistently delivering one of the finest events on the MotoGP calendar.

“Buriram has continuously produced one of the best events on the MotoGP calendar, making it the perfect venue to launch MotoGP’s new era under the 2027 technical regulations.”

He added that the opening race under the new rules will represent the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the championship.

“The first race of the 2027 regulations marks the start of a new era for MotoGP, and we are delighted that this important journey will begin in Thailand.”

MotoGP Group believes Chang International Circuit possesses every ingredient required to host one of the most significant races in modern MotoGP history.

With its world-class facilities, enthusiastic fanbase, and proven organisational standards, Buriram is expected to provide the perfect stage for the championship’s technical revolution.

The combination of a historic rules reset and Thailand’s growing status within global motorsport promises to make the 2027 Thailand Grand Prix one of the most anticipated season openers in MotoGP history.

Being entrusted with the MotoGP season opener for a third straight year further enhances Thailand’s reputation as one of the world’s premier motorsport destinations.

As MotoGP enters a completely new technical era in 2027, all eyes will turn to Buriram, where the future of premier-class motorcycle racing will officially begin.

For Thailand, the honour is not only another milestone in hosting world-class motorsport but also a powerful statement of the country’s growing influence in shaping the future of MotoGP on the global stage.
