Marc Marquez strengthened his status as the undisputed “King of the Ring” with another commanding victory at the Sachsenring, converting pole position into a lights-to-flag triumph in the 2026 German Grand Prix Sprint.
The Ducati Lenovo Team star led all 15 laps to claim another Sachsenring success, holding off younger brother Alex Marquez of BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP, while Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the podium for Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team.
The victory also marked another major milestone in Marquez’s extraordinary career.
With his latest triumph in Germany, the #93 moved onto 19 MotoGP Sprint victories, overtaking Jorge Martin to become the rider with the most Sprint wins in MotoGP history — earning a new claim to the title of “King of Sprint.”
Marc made the perfect launch from pole position and grabbed the holeshot into Turn 1, with Alex immediately settling into second place.
Behind them, Ai Ogura made a rapid start to move into third, but Di Giannantonio quickly fought his way past before the end of the opening lap.
Further back, championship leader Jorge Martin climbed from eighth on the grid to sixth, while Fabio Quartararo and Pedro Acosta battled for the final points-paying positions.
As the race approached half-distance, Franco Morbidelli crashed out, bringing his Sprint to a premature end.
At the front, Marc began to increase the pressure. The #93 opened a gap of around half a second over his younger brother, while Di Giannantonio remained close enough to keep the leading duo under pressure.
The victory was far from guaranteed. Alex refused to allow his brother to escape and reduced the gap to just 0.337 seconds with fewer than four laps remaining.
At the same time, Di Giannantonio began closing rapidly on the #73, setting up the possibility of a dramatic final-lap battle.
The Italian was right on Alex’s rear wheel with two laps remaining, but the Gresini rider held his nerve to protect second place.
Marc, meanwhile, remained composed at the front and crossed the line to secure back-to-back Sachsenring Sprint victories.
Marc Marquez’s victory carried historic significance beyond another Sachsenring success.
The Ducati star has now reached 19 MotoGP Sprint victories, moving ahead of former record holder Jorge Martin to become the most successful Sprint rider since the format was introduced.
Once regarded as the benchmark of MotoGP Sprint racing, Martin has now been overtaken by Marquez, whose remarkable run of Saturday success has established the #93 as the championship’s new “King of Sprint.”
Marc Marquez took the victory ahead of Alex Marquez, completing a memorable Marquez brothers 1-2, while Di Giannantonio secured another important podium in third.
The result also keeps Di Giannantonio firmly in the championship fight, moving him to within 13 points of the lead and just two points behind second place heading towards the summer break.
Behind the podium trio, Ai Ogura finished fourth ahead of Trackhouse teammate Raul Fernandez, while championship leader Jorge Martin secured sixth place.
Francesco Bagnaia finished seventh, with Pedro Acosta beating Fabio Quartararo to eighth place.
Brazilian star Diogo Moreira narrowly missed out on a Sprint point in tenth but finished as the leading Honda rider.
