Malaysia defender Daniel Ting has underlined the importance of pride, momentum, and FIFA ranking points as the national squad intensifies preparations ahead of their final Group F clash against Vietnam in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
Currently in a centralised training camp in Pathum Thani, Thailand, the Harimau Malaya camp has reunited after months apart—bringing renewed energy despite the qualification stakes no longer in play.
Having arrived shortly after club duty with Ratchaburi FC, Ting admitted his initial session focused on recovery—but quickly highlighted the squad’s sharp intensity.
“The boys were working hard like they should. It’s a big, important game.”
Even with qualification hopes already dashed, Ting stressed that the team’s mentality remains unchanged.
“Of course, we want to win every game. It might not affect qualification now, but there are still FIFA points to fight for. We want to build that again and climb back up the rankings.”
The Bangkok camp has also served as a timely reunion for the squad, with players reconnecting after a lengthy break from international duty.
“We haven’t had a camp for a few months, so it’s really good to see everyone again—players and staff. The vibe is very positive.”
Ting emphasized that representing the nation continues to be a powerful motivation, regardless of circumstances.
“When you play for your country, you always want to win. Everyone is happy to be here.”
The 32-year-old defender also highlighted his adaptability across defensive roles, offering flexibility for head coach Peter Cklamovski ahead of the Vietnam encounter.
“I’ve played centre-back and left-back before, so it’s an easy transition. Wherever the coach needs me, I’m ready.”
His experience could prove crucial against a technically disciplined Vietnamese side, especially in a high-pressure away environment.
Ting arrives in camp on the back of a strong run with Ratchaburi FC, where he has featured consistently across domestic and continental competitions.
“I’ve played every minute so far, which I won’t complain about. It’s been really good.”
He also gained valuable exposure in the AFC Champions League Two, describing it as a major step in his career.
“It’s my first time in that competition. The atmosphere, the pitches, and playing against top teams like those from Japan—it’s been a great experience.”
