PDRM FC is set to deploy a different strategy as they aim to overturn their first-leg deficit against Selangor FC in the second leg of the Challenge Cup final at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ) tomorrow night.
The defending champions, known as Sang Saka Biru, suffered a 3-2 defeat in the first match at the same venue last Saturday but remain determined to defend their title.
PDRM assistant coach Eddy Gapil emphasized that his team is still hopeful of staging a comeback, despite acknowledging the challenge of overcoming Selangor.
“Selangor is leading 3-2, the pressure is on us because we need a goal to equalize the match. I believe the PDRM players are mature enough to handle this situation,” said Gapil in a press conference today.
Although all PDRM players are currently injury-free, the team is closely monitoring the condition of captain and main striker, Ifedayo Olusegun, who is recovering from an injury.
“We will see in training whether he (Olusegun) is fully fit for tomorrow’s match. If given the chance, we want to defend the championship.”
Gapil also highlighted the possibility of the game going into extra time or penalties, stressing that his team is prepared for any scenario.
“Football is unpredictable. We will fight for 90 minutes, and if needed, for 120 minutes. If it goes to a penalty shootout, we are ready.”
PDRM FC lifted the 2023 Challenge Cup after a dominant 4-1 aggregate victory over Kuching City. Now, they are aiming to replicate that success and retain their crown.
