The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has announced that Vietnam U23 national team has found 6 players who have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of their match against Thailand U23 in the AFF U23 Championship 2022 group stage C tomorrow (21 February).
On the morning of 21 February, the RT-PCR test results showed that 3 players suspected of being infected had COVID-19. This leads to 3 players sharing a room becoming F1 and will be temporarily isolated from the team until a negative PCR result.
In addition, a Vietnam U23 player is suspected of being infected with COVID-19 after the whole team performed a quick test. In total, U23 Vietnam has 10 players infected with COVID-19, 1 suspected infected player and 3 F1 players.
In the worst case scenario, if the player is suspected of being infected and F1 has a positive result when testing RT-PCR on the morning of the match, U23 Vietnam will only have 13 players eligible to register to compete, including: 3 goalkeepers and 1 injured player is Phan Ba Quyen.
Before, Vietnam U23 added 6 players from their home country, but they almost certainly did not make it in time in the last match of the group stage. After currently has only 9 players and 3 goalkeepers in the best condition.
Despite facing a disadvantage in terms of force, Vietnam U23 has a fulcrum in terms of achievements. They just need not to lose more than 7 goals to the opponent to win tickets to the semi-finals.
