Davin Alonso of the CFMoto Aspar Team claimed a historic victory at the Buriram circuit, setting a new record for the most wins in the Moto3 lightweight class.
This win follows his record-equalling performance in Phillip Island last weekend, placing him ahead of Valentino Rossi in the record books.
The race, originally scheduled for full distance, was reduced to 12 laps due to rain, complicating tire choices and raising tension on the grid. Polesitter Joel Kelso launched well, defending his lead into the first corner against Collin Veijer. Veijer, however, overtook Kelso by the third lap to lead a tight pack of seven, with Alonso working his way up to second.
As rain threatened and red-and-white flags waved, Alonso surged ahead, snatching the lead from Veijer. In the ever-shifting lineup, Taiyo Furusato briefly led with a six-tenths gap, only for Alonso to close it, setting a lap record to reclaim first place. Leopard Racing’s Angel Piqueras and Adrian Fernandez were in contention until a late-race collision took them both out on the penultimate lap.
In a final-lap showdown, Ivan Ortola challenged Alonso, seizing the lead before Alonso’s swift response allowed him to hold his line and clinch victory in a nail-biting dash to the line.
Luca Lunetta secured second, and Veijer took third following a last-moment collision with Furusato, who subsequently crashed out but was later reinstated to fifth. Ortola ended up fourth after running wide at the final corner.
Behind the champion, the top 10 rounded out with David Munoz in sixth, followed by Kelso, Scott Ogden, Stefano Nepa, and Tatsuki Suzuki. Ryusei Yamanaka, Dani Holgado, Riccardo Rossi, Filippo Farioli, and Jose Antonio Rueda completed the points positions.
