Malaysia men’s singles player, Lee Zii Jia, made a last-minute decision to withdraw from participating in the KFF Singapore Open 2024 tournament, recently.
This decision indirectly saw his opponent in the first round from Indonesia, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, get a free win to meet another representative from the country, Leong Jun Hao in the second round, tomorrow.
According to a post on the X Team LZJ social media page, the decision was made after taking into account a medical assessment in Singapore which advised that the player ranked ninth in the world should not participate in the tournament following his hamstring injury.
“It was a difficult decision to withdraw from the Singapore Open, but following medical assessment in Singapore, Lee Zii Jia was advised not to participate following a hamstring injury suffered at the Thailand Open and the Malaysia Masters.” said Team LZJ in a media statement today.
“The Zii Jia program is currently focused on the recovery process,”
At the Malaysian Masters last week, Zii Jia reportedly suffered from muscle spasms in the quarter-finals but managed to continue his progress to the final stage before losing to the world number one player from Denmark, Viktor Axelsen.
