Football Association of Indonesia(PSSI) decided to appointed Indonesian U20 national team and Indra Sjafri, head coach to participate in Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China during 23 September – 8 October 2023.
This certainty was made after Erick Thohir, President of PSSI met with Indra Sjafri on 6 July. and this squad will participate in Asian Games 2026 in Aichi, and Nagoya, Japan
Indonesia U20 national team does not have a competition to play in this year after missing to participate in FIFA U20 World Cup 2023 after Indonesia has been canceled from the host by FIFA due to problems Israel conflict.
“PSSI has agreed with coach Indra Sjafri regarding his appointment as coach of the Indonesian U20 as well as the upcoming 2023 and 2026 Asian Games. We have a contract for four years and PSSI believes Indra Sjafri is the right coach for this,” Erick said.
“We also hope that coach Indra Sjafri will be able to qualify the U-20 team for the 2025 U-20 World Cup. PSSI believes coach Indra Sjafri will make achievements for the Indonesian national team in the tournaments he participates in,”
In addition, Indra Sjafri has said for grateful to PSSI for trusting him to handle this squad.
“Alhamdulillah, I received the mandate given by the PSSI Ketum to train the U-20 team and the 2023 and 2026 Asian Games. God willing, I am ready and will prepare the team as well as possible to achieve achievements,”
