Malaysia U23 national team will not participate in Men’s Football Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China on September 2023, from the interview by Datuk Haji Hamidin Mohd Amin, President of the Football Association of Malaysia(FAM).
For the reason of this decision, It is a string of FAM decisions that only pay attention to the AFC U23 Asian Cup, Which Qualifiers round will hold on 4-12 September 2023 before the Men’s Football Asian Games 2022 for one week only that are too close, FAM has to make a choice.
“The qualification to Paris 2024 will take place after the end of the Asian Games at the same time we will not send to the Asian Games competition,” DHMA said.
“We don’t want to participate in all the competitions but there is no result that is a positive result for Malaysia.”
In the history of Men’s Football Asian Games, Malaysia debuted participating in 1958 in Tokyo, Japan, and did not participate one time only in 1998 in Bangkok, Thailand.
