Malaysia head coach Peter Cklamovski has expressed his excitement ahead of facing traditional rivals Singapore, acknowledging the stern challenge The Lions are expected to bring in their upcoming clash at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on September 4.
Despite Singapore being under the guidance of interim coach Gavin Lee, the former FC Tokyo boss refuses to underestimate Malaysia’s southern neighbors, noting their depth of talent and structured style of play developed over the past two years.
“They are a good team, and we respect them because they have quality players. I’m excited about the challenge they will bring with their style of play,” Cklamovski told reporters during the pre-match press conference.
The Australian coach, who has been tasked with leading Harimau Malaya into the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers, emphasized Malaysia must bring their very best if they are to secure victory in front of their home fans.
“They have been playing in a certain way for the last one to two years, and I expect that to continue. I can’t wait for us to play our football—exploiting spaces where we can dominate them and hopefully scoring some goals,” he added.
Cklamovski sees the match as a valuable test for his side, not only in terms of preparation but also in sustaining Malaysia’s recent positive momentum against their rivals.
