South Korean star Choi Hye-Jin continued her dominant run at the Maybank Championship 2025, holding firm atop the leaderboard after a superb third-round performance at the West Course, Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC).
The 25-year-old displayed unwavering focus and precise execution throughout the day, carding a brilliant -5(67) for a three-day total of -19(197), keeping her on course for what could be one of the most commanding victories of her LPGA career.
Despite facing humid afternoon conditions, Choi maintained her rhythm with a string of confident birdies, showcasing her world-class iron play and consistency on the greens. Her calm demeanor under pressure allowed her to navigate the challenging layout with ease.
“So the good part about it was the players I played with today, because of them I could more concentrate on my game. It was quite hot today but better than yesterday, so it worked well for me.” Choi said after her round.
“Actually I had a lot of chance before to win but I didn’t make it, but now I played well three days, so I’m just looking for my win tomorrow. I’m going to concentrate on my game tomorrow.”
Choi, who has led since Day 2, now holds a four-shot advantage heading into Sunday’s final round as she looks to secure her first Maybank Championship title and add another LPGA trophy to her resume.
In second place at -15(201) is Yan Liu of China, who produced a flawless round of golf with seven birdies and no bogeys, solidifying her reputation as one of the rising stars from Asia.
Just one stroke behind her at -14(202) is Australian Hannah Green, who showed remarkable resilience despite setbacks — including a double bogey on the 3rd and a bogey on the 18th. Green recovered impressively with eight birdies, keeping herself firmly in contention heading into the final day.
World No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul delivered one of the standout rounds of the day, firing a -8(64) to climb into a share of fourth place at -13(203) alongside Kim-A Lim of South Korea, who also carded eight birdies.
The Thai superstar’s precision and poise reignited her championship hopes, setting the stage for a thrilling final-round chase against Choi.
Malaysia’s Kelly Tan remains the best-performing home player after three rounds. The 30-year-old produced a composed 4-under 68, moving up the leaderboard to T38 at 5-under (211). Her consistency on approach and confident putting have kept her in strong position to finish as the top Malaysian in this elite field.
With 78 golfers playing all four rounds — no cut in this special LPGA event — the final day promises drama, precision, and passion as the best in women’s golf battle it out for the Tiger Trophy and a won of the USD 450,000 prize purse.
