Malaysian golfer Ashley Lau remained composed and optimistic after carding an even-par (72) in the second round of the Maybank Championship 2025 at the West Course, Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.
While the 24-year-old admitted the round didn’t go as smoothly as the previous day, Lau maintained her trademark calmness, focusing on consistency and mindset heading into the weekend.
“I think I just wasn’t playing as well as yesterday. The putts just weren’t dropping for me. It’s okay — two more days to go,” Lau said with a smile after her round.
Lau, who is currently Malaysia’s top performer in the tournament at 3-under-par (141), noted that she plans to stick with the same game plan for the third round while spending time on the putting green to regain her touch.
“It’s just one of those days where putts weren’t falling. Maybe I’ll do a bit of putting practice after this and hopefully more putts drop tomorrow,” she added.
Despite facing several bogeys throughout her round, Lau kept her focus and composure — a reflection of her growing maturity as a professional golfer.
“You just have to forget about it. It already happened. Nothing you can do about it,” she said. “Just focus on your next shot.”
Lau admitted to feeling some frustration after missed opportunities on the greens but credited her caddie for helping her stay grounded and refocused.
“Putting is usually my bread and butter, so I was getting a little frustrated when the putts weren’t dropping. My caddie kept telling me to keep my head up and focus on the next hole — that helped me reset.”
One of her highlights came on Hole 8, where she drained a confident birdie after seeking her caddie’s input on the putt.
“I had about a five- or six-footer for birdie. Normally I read my own putts, but today I asked my caddie to confirm the line — and it went in! So, very happy about that,” Lau said.
Heading into the weekend rounds, Lau’s mindset remains simple: stay relaxed, stay positive, and keep learning from the world-class players around her.
“I just want to have fun out there and learn from all these great players I’m competing with. Nothing different from the last two days.”
With the Maybank Championship bringing together the top names in women’s golf, Lau’s steady performance continues to inspire Malaysian fans — showing that poise, patience, and perseverance remain key ingredients for success on home soil.
