Sri Pahang FC earned 3 points in their home after beating Kedah Darul Aman scoring 6-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Stadium MPT, Temerloh.
Both teams entered the match desperate for a win, having struggled with inconsistency in recent fixtures. However, it was Fandi Ahmad’s Tok Gajah side that rose to the occasion, overwhelming the visitors with dominant possession, clinical finishing, and relentless pressure.
Fandi opted to rest key players Azam Azih, Manuel Hidalgo, and Zarif Irfan at the start, while Kedah, who travelled with a limited squad of 18 players, were anchored by central defender Akmal Zahir.
From the opening whistle, Sri Pahang – decked in all yellow – controlled the tempo and forced Kedah into a defensive shell. The breakthrough came in the 37th minute, when Sergio Aguero smashed home a thunderous strike inside the box to ignite the home crowd.
Just before halftime, Aleksandar Cvetkovic doubled the lead with a towering header past goalkeeper Ifwat Akmal, sending Sri Pahang into the break 2-0 up and in full control.
The second half saw the reintroduction of rested stars Azam Azih, Manuel Hidalgo, and Adam Nor Azlin, and it didn’t take long for the reinforcements to make an impact.
In the 60th minute, T. Saravanan sliced through Kedah’s defence with a dazzling solo effort to make it 3-0, before Aguero struck again with a composed half-volley in the 67th after a slick pass from Azam.
The floodgates opened further when Kedah’s misery was compounded by an own goal from young defender Safwan Shuhaimi, who deflected Mykola Ahapov’s pass into his own net.
Captain Stefano Brundo capped off the stunning performance with a blistering volley from a corner in the 83rd minute to seal a 6-0 rout – one of Sri Pahang’s biggest victories in recent memory.
The result sees Sri Pahang bounce back in style, boosting morale and gaining crucial points as they climb the league standings. Kedah, on the other hand, will be left to pick up the pieces after a nightmarish performance in Temerloh.
Next up, Kedah will return to Darul Aman Stadium to face Sabah FC, while Sri Pahang travel to Manjung for a clash against Perak FC – both fixtures scheduled for April 12.
