Two first-half goals proved decisive as Imigresen FC secured a 2-0 away victory over Melaka FC in a Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 at Hang Jebat Stadium, Krubong.
The opening exchanges were cagey, with both sides opting for a cautious approach that saw possession circulate mainly in midfield, producing little goalmouth action.
Melaka FC nearly broke the deadlock in the 17th minute through former national striker Muhammad Sharel Fikri, but his effort was comfortably gathered by Imigresen goalkeeper Muhammad Zarif Irfan.
The visitors found the breakthrough six minutes later when Brazilian import Eduardo José Sosa Vegas capitalised on a rebound to put Imigresen ahead in the 24th minute. His goal came after a powerful strike from João Pedro Boeira Duarte was parried by Melaka goalkeeper Muhammad Haziq Aiman, allowing the Venezuelan-born forward to slot home from close range.
Imigresen’s growing confidence soon translated into a second goal. In the 30th minute, João Pedro turned scorer, reacting quickest to a headed assist from Wilma Jordan during a goalmouth scramble to double the visitors’ advantage.
Chasing the game after the interval, Melaka FC ramped up their attacking efforts, introducing last season’s top scorer Abdul Azim Rahim in place of Sharel Fikri to inject more firepower up front.
Despite the increased intensity, the home side could not find a way past Zarif. Azim’s fierce attempt in the 72nd minute sailed over the crossbar, while Juan Douglas’ close-range header a minute later was safely handled by the Imigresen custodian.
The composed and disciplined display underlined Imigresen FC’s growing confidence in the Liga Super, while Melaka FC will be left searching for answers as they look to halt their slide in the standings.
The defeat marked Melaka FC’s second consecutive loss, following their heavy 4-0 setback against Kuching City FC last week, compounding a difficult spell for the Hang Tuah outfit.
