Kelantan Darul Naim FC has been fined RM 5,000 and issued a formal warning after promoting an illegal live stream on the club’s official social media account on 27 September 2024, a violation of the Malaysian Football League (MFL) Media Rules.
The incident, disclosed by Giorgio Pompili Rossi, CEO of MFL, highlights the league’s firm stance against unauthorized streaming of Malaysian League matches. The MFL is dedicated to protecting the broadcasting rights of its official partners, Astro and RTM, ensuring that supporters access matches through legitimate channels.
“We at MFL take the privacy of content and the broadcasting rights of the Malaysian League very seriously. Protecting the rights of our official broadcasters, Astro and RTM, is crucial as they continuously strive to provide the best coverage for our supporters,” stated Rossi.
Rossi emphasized that broadcasting rights are a significant revenue source for the clubs, making it essential for fans to watch matches legally. He also urged fans to avoid engaging with or promoting illegal streams on social media or other platforms.
The MFL is committed to ensuring that local football fans enjoy comprehensive coverage of the Malaysian League 2024/25 season. With Astro and RTM providing official broadcasts, illegal streams undermine the commercial value and efforts of these broadcasters.
“Promoting or encouraging the use of illegal websites is unacceptable. We are disappointed by Kelantan Darul Naim FC’s actions and hope such violations will not happen again,” Rossi said.
Kelantan Darul Naim FC’s actions were in direct breach of the League Manual Malaysia 2024, specifically regarding media rules. If the club repeats the offense, heavier penalties will be imposed on them or any other team found violating these regulations.
