Doan Nguyen Duc, President of Hoang Anh Gia Lai, a club in V.League Vietnam has an announcement to frighten Vietnam Professional Football(VPF) whether to withdraw the team from the league after not being approved to use “Carabao” main sponsor of the club Jersey in this season.
In 2023 season, Hoang Anh Gia Lai have “Carabao” an energy drink brand from Thailand to be a platinum sponsor of the club and shown on jersey this season but VPF said can’t put Carabao on the jersey due to a breach of contract between VPF and “Night Wolf” energy drink brand from Vietnam, which is a main sponsor of the league that stated “Prohibited team in the league have sponsor about energy drink brand on the jersey”
After that, the President of HAGL has an announcement for ask to VPF for about reason and action in this case
- Since the 2021 LS V-League season, the Redbull energy drink brand has become the Platinum sponsor of HAGL for two years 2021 and 2022. The VPF Company announced the Night Wolf energy drink a year later. is the sponsor of the V-League 2022. To prepare for the new season of Night Wolf V-League 2023, HAGL has negotiated and signed a contract with Carabao Group (Thailand) on December 5th- 2022, and announced Carabao energy drink as the main sponsor for the 2023-2024 season.
- As a club that has been operating in the professional football field for more than 20 years, we always comply with the rules and regulations of the tournament, including the exploitation of sponsorship and advertising brands. HAGL is the pioneer club in exploiting energy drink brands, then VPF Company just announced the energy drink brand for the tournament. The exploitation of the energy drink industry to sponsor HAGL has taken place continuously, without interruption from 2021 up to now. Therefore, VPF Company cannot ban us from exploiting the energy drink brand to sponsor the team for the new season. This decision is completely unreasonable and does not create conditions for HAGL Club to develop.
- In the operation of a professional football club, the income from sponsors is the most important. If the VPF Company does not allow advertising cooperation between HAGL Club and the Carabao energy drink brand, the club will lose its income, and will not have money to pay coaches, players, and the team’s operating expenses. Another big consequence is that HAGL Club will have to compensate for contract damage to Carabao, which also damages the reputation of Vietnamese businesses in the international market. With the above presentation, we suggest that VPF Company consider all legal aspects to create favorable conditions for HAGL to cooperate with sponsor Carabao at Night Wolf V-League 2023 and the following years.
