World No. 6 women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah put their Kumamoto Masters disappointment behind them with an emphatic victory in the opening round of the China Masters 2024.
The Malaysian duo breezed past China’s new pairing, Ding Ke Yun and Wang Yi Duo, with a convincing 21-16, 21-14 win at the Shenzhen Gymnasium in this Super 750 event.
Pearly and Thinaah displayed their trademark synergy and attacking prowess, dominating the match from start to finish. Their aggressive net play and consistent smashes left their Chinese opponents struggling to find rhythm. The Malaysians closed out the match in straight games, signaling their intent to go far in the tournament.
With the win, Pearly and Thinaah advanced to the second round, where they will face the winner of the clash between Japan’s Arisa Igarashi-Ayako Sakuramoto and Taiwan’s Hsu Yin Hui-Lin Jhih Yun. The pair will aim to build on this strong start and reclaim their momentum after their early exit in the Kumamoto Masters last week.
The duo’s recent form has seen ups and downs, but their dominant opening performance at the China Masters suggests they are back on track. Fans will be hoping that Pearly and Thinaah can rediscover the form that has made them one of the most exciting women’s doubles pairs on the world stage.
